Planning the perfect patio space
So far, Spring has spoiled us with some scorching weather and we’re hopeful summer will continue to provide its fair share of sunshine. If you’re anything like us, this means one thing – enjoying time outside in your garden as much as possible.
Creating the perfect outdoor entertaining or relaxation space can have a huge impact on the look and feel of a house and garden. However, planning the perfect patio takes time. From size and style to backdrop, here are some top tips on what to consider when planning your outdoor space.
Size of patio
The entertaining space is often the most used part of the garden, and therefore you want it to be the right size to fit everything you need – from furniture to BBQ’s and beyond. However, you want to keep your proportions right. Try splitting your garden into thirds. One third patio, one third grass and one third for other elements such as storage, children’s toys, plant beds or maybe even a hot tub!
Materials
Most people would immediately assume a patio is made from paving slabs, but it doesn’t have to be! From brickwork to concrete, there are a whole host of materials you could use to create the right aesthetic to fit in with your decor, maintenance schedule and budget. Shelter & Heat
Ok, so whilst us Brits are outside catching the sun at any chance we get, we are also far too familiar with rainy summer nights and chilly winters. But where’s the fun in only using your patio in summer? Create a patio with a form of shelter, such as umbrellas or a pergola to add that all important shelter when you need it. Throw in a fire pit or patio heater to the mix, and you have your perfect all year round spot!
Privacy
Whilst you don’t want to stop your patio from becoming a sun trap, privacy is important. The use of canopies, umbrellas and shrubbery can help create a private, peaceful environment.
